Me and my Poetry

Welcome to Juan Calle's Website

This Web site features some of my poems in English and Spanish.

About me

My name is Juan Calle. I was born in Peru in 1959 and have lived in London since 1988. I began writing poetry at the age of 14 but I didn't have the oportunity of publishing my works until I came to England, a country that has helped me to rediscover my passion for this art. My first book in Spanish is called 'Canciones para un Peregrino'which means 'Songs for a Pilgrim' it's a book of meditations about the spiritual solitud I lived during my first years in England. My second book currently being published is called 'Echoes of a Lost Soul'. This book speaks of my concern for the universal oneness of life through a constant search for harmony within nature, life and death.
I must acknowledge the influence of John Milton and especially William Blake, true seekers of the heart.

About my Poetry

We live in a time in which poetry is experiencing a radical change. The age of rhyming and rhytmn is a thing of the past, and this so called Modern Poetry has been inundated with amusement and entertainment. Nowadays to write a poem is a matter of being clever or simply use the language correctly, but the real purpose of the poetic feeling has been lost.
I think true poets must strive to preserve the essence of this art, I know that we have to walk along with the times, but for me some things must not change.
My poems are a mirror of my own humanhood. I am a being in constant search and longing for the misteries of life and my great aspiration is to experience love among my human-fellows.
